I hit my head.
Most of the time when someone hits their head, it is not a worrisome injury. If you have only local pain at the site of the injury, you can place ice at the injury site and use Tylenol or Ibuprofen. If the injury is bad enough that there is loss of consciousness, you need to be seen urgently. A head injury can sometimes result in a concussion. Symptoms of a concussion include: confusion, headache, balance problems, change in your vision, memory loss, sleepiness and nausea, among others. If you have had a head injury and you have these symptoms, you need to rest, take nothing other than Ibuprofen or Tylenol for discomfort, drink no alcohol, eat a light diet and be seen by a health care provider. Symptoms after a head injury that would prompt the need for emergency treatment are: convulsions, change in the size of pupils, decreasing consciousness, clear fluid from the nose, facial bruising and severe headache.
